The compilation of Hadith has a rich history, with numerous collections being documented over various eras. Among these, "Muwatta Imam Malik," compiled by Imam Malik ibn Anas, holds the distinction of being one of the earliest collections in the Hadith literature. Notably, it is the first to be systematically arranged in a juristic framework. This collection is renowned for its inclusion of only authentic Hadiths, a feature attested by the consensus of Hadith scholars, including Shah Waliullah Dehlawi.
Given its significant role in Islamic jurisprudence and Hadith studies, "Muwatta Imam Malik" has been a vital resource for scholars throughout history. Various commentaries and annotations have been penned across different Islamic states to elucidate its contents further.
Recognizing the challenges faced by Urdu-speaking scholars due to the original Arabic text, Maulana Dr. Sajid-ur-Rahman Siddiqui dedicated himself to translating and adapting this work for contemporary readers. His efforts included summarizing the explanations from "Aujaz al-Masalik" by Sheikh al-Hadith Maulana Zakariya and "Kashf al-Mughatta" by Maulana Ashfaq-ur-Rahman Kandhalvi. Although Dr. Siddiqui completed about 70% of the work before his untimely passing (inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un), Maulana Muhammad Abid, a graduate of Darul Uloom Karachi, continued and completed the project, maintaining the original methodology.
Darul-Ishaat has proudly published this invaluable Hadith collection, ensuring its alignment with their high publishing standards, including comprehensive referencing, titles, and comparative analysis with Egyptian and Indian editions. We pray that Allah accepts this effort, making it beneficial for the Muslim Ummah and a source of reward and salvation for the authors, compilers, and all involved (Ameen).
